NSOS is now in its 118th year, and has performed almost every year in local theatres since its foundation in 1892. We have the reputation of being one of the most prestigious societies in the Midlands and indeed some would say in the country. The society has charitable status and volunteers, who form the governing committee, are responsible for all the day-to-day decisions needed to get a show on the stage. We play at the Regent Theatre, The New Victoria Theatre, The Victoria Hall, and The Mitchell Memorial Theatre and we are very much involved in providing a musical and dramatic experience for local people of all ages, either on stage, backstage or front of house.
SO WHY NOT JOIN US?
We attract the cream of local talent- and yet we are open to all! We welcome new and untried talent. Obviously to appear on stage you need to have some skills, but they don’t necessarily need to be well practised because we provide ongoing tuition and support during the production period.
If you are not a performer, there are openings backstage- without people behind the scenes shows would not get on stage. Are you interested in, scenery making, helping with props, sewing, dressing, making tea, ticket sales, selling programmes, acting as a front-of-house steward ~ the list is never ending. We do like to socialise and our Social Committee organise events throughout the year.
